In Genesis 27-36, we heard about the story of Esau selling his birthright for lentil soup. Jeff Cabins then asks what is our lentil soup. To me Esau's response to Jacob in being famished and giving away his birthright seems completely reasonable in light of him being about to die. I suppose given more cultural understanding, perhaps I would be more inclined to die for double share of inheritance, or maybe the spiritual connection to God's favor passing down. In any case, my question is, given Judah's story of redemption, Esau does not seem to have any (at least in Genesis) story of attempted redemption, he seemed to have been born wretched and further cursed by Jacob; so what if our entire purpose is to be Esau in our story of Esau and Jacob? Was Esau cursed from the beginning or was there an entire arc of failed redemption hidden between scripture?
